Reverend Princes, Gracious Lords, may the blessed grace of Jesus Christ be with Your Princely Grace, and through this, my humble obedience and dutiful service be always faithfully offered. Gracious Princes and Lords, after the late Reverend Prince and Lord, Lord Marquardt, Bishop of Speyer, Provost of Weissenburg, and Imperial Chamberlain of the Holy Roman Emperor of blessed memory, who had a special desire, love, and diligence in recognizing and attaining all high, praiseworthy, and excellent arts, and also divine truth, who bought and brought together all sorts of good and select books in all arts and faculties, and who loved and showed favor and loyalty to their professors more than others, among other books in his library, he had this present book, which Your Princely Grace had copied and read yourself, and graciously gave me to read, test, and judge shortly before Your Princely Grace's serious illness, with the command that I should correct, improve, diminish and increase it wherever it seemed too much or too little, so that it might not be contrary to the truth. For Your Princely Grace graciously indicated that you did not know the actual author of this book, but only heard that it was supposed to have been made by a Bishop's Chancellor in Salzburg, and Your Princely Grace has also presented it to other doctors who highly praised, tested, and deemed it worthy of publication. Since I have received this book, almost like an inherited gift and bequest from my Gracious Prince and Lord of blessed memory, and have also read and re-read it according to Your Princely Grace's gracious desire, and most of it has pleased me very well, I have taken it further into my hands and added much to it, and where the author has not done enough for me, I have also added a declaration or my humble understanding beside it in the margin or in the context of the speech and recorded it. And since the author has been a zealous man for the recognized and beloved truth, and has written vehemently against the heathen and idolatrous misuse, and unfounded opinions, and has harshly rebuked and attacked their lovers and defenders, I have also, for reasonable and significant reasons, as much as possible, mitigated, corrected, and often omitted this rebuke, yet in such a way that the understanding and foundation of the author have not been taken away at all. Whoever has desire, love, longing, and a zeal for truth and wisdom, which Jesus Christ, the natural Son of God, teaches and imparts to all those who sincerely ask and call upon Him in faith, in truth, and in the spirit, will undoubtedly be unable to refute, reject, and disprove such a book, and the other book, which, if God so wills, shall soon follow. Such a person would gladly wrestle with John and Paul, humble himself, and desire to be nothing, so that only Jesus Christ, his Lord and God, the true, only, art-rich Master and teacher in all things, might have and retain the precedence, praise, and mastery. He would gladly forsake human, fleshly, earthly, and heathen (animal, psychic) wisdom and art, which is foolishness before God, and flee and avoid the school of such human inventions, so that he might come to the school of Jesus Christ for divine and eternal truth and wisdom, which comes down from above from God, and is pure, peaceful, gentle, modest, tractable, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and without hypocrisy and offense, as Saint James writes in chapter 3. For indeed, the first book, as well as the following one, teaches rightly and thoroughly, where all true arts, wisdom, and knowledge in all things, in the first and second order come from, and how everyone can, should, and must learn and attain them in the school and mastery of Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit in faith, with prayer, and in the fear, love, and obedience of God, in the service of the God-loving and learned, and also in their writings and books, as the true testimonies of God and His truth and their servants. For since man is not only a creature, creation of God, and blessed man, but a child and Son of God, a new spiritual man, indeed a dwelling, temple, and tabernacle of the Holy Trinity, and is to become one with them, he must also be taken over, possessed, ruled, led, taught, and reborn in soul, spirit, and body by Christ Jesus, the living Word and wisdom of God, from this creaturely life and essence, into the divine life and essence or into Heaven. As man was initially formed, created, and placed by God the Creator from the Limbo or Macrocosm, or from the outer great world, and all things were created for his sake, for his service, and as a testimony and for the glory of God, it is necessary for the natural knowledge of God the Creator and of man, and also for his sustenance, temporal life, and health, that man should learn to recognize the great world, heaven, earth, and all that is within it and pertains to it, as his matter. Moreover, he must foremost recognize his Creator through the act of creation and learn to properly utilize all creatures. From this arises Physics, Medicine, Mathematics, Astronomy, and other commendable and useful arts, which have been revealed and bestowed upon humans by the ingenious Word and Wisdom of God. Considering that man, as mentioned, is not just a creature, not just a soulish man of this world, this life, and essence, but should remain an heir of God, an inhabitant and citizen of heaven, a new spiritual man, and even become like God (1 John 3), it is paramount that in this time of grace, he fervently and diligently seeks the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, Jesus Christ. He must learn to recognize God as his Father and himself in Christ and through Him, as an obedient or believing Son of the Father by grace. He must strive utmost for this knowledge, which then brings eternal life (John 17; Wisdom 13, 15; 2 Peter 1). From this springs the spiritual order, theology, Christianity, the count of God's chosen children, and the true worship of God, in spirit, in faith, and in truth. Just as there should and must be a union and fellowship between the spirit, soul, and body, and one cannot exist without the other for a whole, new, and Christian man to exist, so there should also be a beautiful analogy, similarity, comparison, and union between the true knowledge of the first order and the other spiritual knowledge of the spiritual and another order. This includes between the work and duty of God in His counter-creation or the birth of His children, and between the spiritual and physical medicine and healing. The physical, the first and temporal, is a figure, a type, an image, and a shadow of the other order and of the spiritual, eternal, and ever-existing truth, which is and will be in Jesus Christ, and solely points to and testifies of it externally. Since the philosophy and theology contained in this and the other book compare well with each other as the figure or image and truth, as the shadow and body, and also rightly reveal and praise God the Creator and Father with His two distinct offices and powers, of the creation of His creatures and the birth of His children, as in the testimony, point to Him through Christ the only Mediator, and rightly proclaim and declare the use and purpose of all creatures, explain man according to the first and second states, describe, and show the nearest way to both orders, the physical and spiritual knowledge, I hope that such teaching and instruction may be honorable and praiseworthy to God, analogous to faith, useful, comforting, advantageous, and truthful to man, sufficiently corroborated with the testimony of Holy Scripture and approved teachers, and may well withstand the heathen masters. What is not sufficiently explained, elaborated, carried out, and done in the first book, I hope the other Book of Creation, and counter-creation, liber creationis & generationis Dei, will amply supply, wherein the whole work of creating heavens, elements, all creatures, and man is nicely presented and compared with the work of rebirth, and one in and through the other is explained a little according to the measure of my weak faith. I hope and trust that every good-hearted reader will still rise and praise God with me for this humble gift and also earnestly and zealously pray that He further open His gentle hand and more abundantly share and bestow upon us His divine truth and wisdom in the first and second order, for the opening and recognition of the Book of the community of Heaven and Earth, and the Book of Life, eternal wisdom, and truth, for His praise, honor, and glory, and for the further spread of His Divine eternal word of creation, redemption, and restoration of all things, and its soul-saving knowledge, unity of faith, and gathering into one spirit, one soul, and one body, the sheep of Christ, scattered and divided here and there in the wilderness of this wide world. But since, High Princes and Lords, there is a commendable custom, and many important reasons, that such books are dedicated to high Princes, Potentates, and Lords, and they are chosen as patrons, I have wanted to dedicate this book to Your Princely Grace and elect them as patrons and defenders. For since Your Princely Grace was a good friend of the High Prince and Lord of blessed memory, from whom I received this book, and has also in part succeeded to Your Princely Grace, I have wanted to offer and communicate this legacy to Your Princely Grace again publicly and submissively. Secondly, Your Princely Grace has shown me, in many ways, considerable kindness and good favor, for which, as the occasion arises, I shall publicly and justly express my gratitude to Your Princely Grace. Thirdly, since Your Princely Grace also has a particular love, pleasure, and inclination for such arts and Divine wisdom and truth, and especially holds the responsibility to promote, propagate, and manage the truth and wisdom of God, I have chosen and elected Your Princely Grace as my gracious Princes and Lords before others to be patrons, Mecoenates, and defenders, with a submissive and humble request and desire that Your Princely Grace would graciously recognize and accept this my labor, diligence, and zeal for the advancement of Divine truth, and provide that, according to the demonstration of the aforementioned two books, the high good arts, and Divine truth, knowledge, and wisdom may be promoted, and more broadly propagated to everyone for temporal and eternal benefit. In this, Your Princely Grace will undoubtedly perform a commendable service to God and our Lord Jesus Christ and create great benefit for many, and gain more praise, honor, and glory with many other highly wise and highly experienced Kings, Prophets, Princes, and Lords recounted in this book than what they achieved through many worldly victories, triumphs, and other great worldly things. For truly recognizing God, his Creator, Redeemer, and Father, and oneself, as a rational creature, and thereafter as a child of God's grace rightly in faith, and serving another in the grace of Jesus Christ, is truly the highest wisdom, the highest honor, the highest joy, and eternal life, the perfect righteousness, and a root of immortality, as Holy Scripture clearly testifies (Wisdom 13:15; John 6:17; Proverbs 19:2; 1 Peter 1; James 5). I earnestly pray to that triune God that He may graciously guide and lead Your Princely Grace in these last dangerous times, to govern wisely and peacefully with understanding and wisdom, and grant health to the soul and body, long life, and after this, eternal life, to whom I faithfully commend Your Princely Grace.
