Relationship to other texts. Not a separate work, but a “very concise excerpt” (Weimann) from the main version of the authentic Libellus de virgine sancta theotoca. According to Weimann the shortening “is so radical that whole chapters are reduced to two or three sentences. On the other hand there is nothing in this excerpt that is not found in the main version. And most sentences are more or less taken word-by-word from the main version.” – Contrary to Weimann, Gantenbein considers Maria ist aus Anna geboren to be a work on its own, possibly “fragmentary working notes by Paracelsus when he was about to revise the Book on the Virgin Mary.”

Authenticity, authorship.
