I. Basic information

Printing History, Manuscripts. First edited as a work of Paracelsus in 1749 by Johann Georg Wagentruz in Lumen Artis Prudentiae Intelligentiae Sapientiae. One manuscript. Another manuscript was offered in 1798.

Editions. Not edited by Huser or Sudhoff.

Relationship between different versions. Only one known version.

Structure, genre/form, perspective, style.

Relationship to other texts. The beginning is the same text as chapter 21 plus the “clavis” to chapter 21 of J.G. Toeltius, Coelum reseratum chymicum (Frankfurt a.M.-Leipzig, 1737). Toeltius’s Coelum was one of the works announced for publication by the Erfurt publisher Augustinus Crusius in 1735. There are, however, many differences in respect to single words. It is not known if the Kurze Weg is compiled from a manuscript of the Coelum reseratum chymicum or if both texts have the same sources. On the other hand, Wagentruz’s publication is known for being compiled from many different sources.

Authenticity, authorship.

Time of writing. Further study required.
