Dann es ist ein mahl gewiß vnd wahr/ wer Gott nicht erkennet/ der liebet Jhn nicht/ er weiß nichts von Jhm: Der die Trinitet nicht weiß/ der glaubt sie nicht/ der liebet sie nicht.

Vnd das seindt hohe {{MarkupAntiqua|Mysteria}} vnd Magnalien Gottes/ darvon die Welte nichts weist/ oder erkennet/ darumb sie es auch nicht glaubt/ auch nichts grundtlichs erfahret. High, honorable, and knowledgeable experienced and devout men in Christ, gracious lords, friends, and brothers, I greet you and wish you all health and prosperity from Almighty GOD for this incoming year, along with all temporal and eternal happiness. Beloved lords, benevolent patrons and friends, just as the deer in Psalm 41 cries out for fresh water sources, so for this whole time since I have learned of your news, I have been drinking with all lovers and spectators of the heavenly philosophy and alchemy, especially with you, from the well of truth, not only from the natural light, but also from the light of the Holy Spirit that reveals itself from His own heavenly fountain of the Holy Scripture.

But now, many deceitful lights in this world have been lit and set up by Lucifer and his minions, after which this current blind, self-interested, and money-hungry world regulates itself, and boasts of great high wisdom and gifts, and with which it struts and displays itself, and deludes itself into thinking that the heavens would fall if they did not exist; yet, all of it together is just false heathen deadly philosophy, and before the face of God, it is a terrible sin, a stinking supposed wisdom that is pure foolishness before Him, as Paul says, and it can never stand before the throne of God, or be seen there. So also, many stinking, rotten, and murky cisterns, ponds and puddles flow from the dead moor and dark realm of Satan, in which nothing but devilish poison and bile exist. Indeed, many thousands of people unknowingly and in great blindness, drink from them and die both temporally and eternally, and yet they hold them to be healthy and healing wells and sources of water.

Therefore, from my youth, I have diligently searched for such a well of truth and living springs of true wisdom and philosophy. Although I myself have always been inclined towards the lazy, disgusting, and stinking puddles of supposed worldly philosophy and arts, I have been graciously rescued and turned away from those murky and dark cisterns by the providence and guidance of the Heavenly Father. Eventually, I arrived at the highly enlightened philosopher and monarch of the arts, THEOPHRASTUS, who fundamentally explained and demonstrated to me the light of nature from true foundations in Astronomy, Philosophy, Magic, and Cabalistic Theology, which can never be contradicted for eternity. Moreover, I arrived at the one who spoke to the Samaritan woman in the New Testament, John 4, saying that he could give living water, and whoever drinks from it shall never thirst again, and it shall become a fountain of water within him, springing up to eternal life. I also arrived at the one whom the Father from heaven called out in Matthew 3, "Listen to Him!" and who also said in John 14, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

It has been many years, dear gentlemen and brothers, since I have tasted with you from the cup of the prophet Ezra and Joseph, or from the potable gold of Moses, which he sprinkled onto the water from the golden calf and gave to the children of Israel to drink, and also from the heavenly fiery nectar, and from the natural well of temporal life and health, which few have experienced. However, if this has not yet happened, it is truly our own fault because we have not prepared ourselves well enough, and have only pursued the temporal things of the world, not following the rule of Christ in Matthew 6, "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Indeed, we have also forgotten the first three Cabalistic principles, "Ask, Seek, Knock." If we had done this with diligence, and lived a Christian, God-pleasing life, and explored and researched nature better, we would undoubtedly have gained something from the gold-rich well of the gracious nature. As far as I can gather from the writings of all philosophers who have written about the Universal Medicine and the blessed treasure of the Tincture, among heathens and Christians, and the Stone of the Wise, which is the highest secret treasure of nature, I find that most of them were true naturalists, profound philosophers, magi, and cabalists. For true magic is an art and skill that allows one to gain knowledge of the elements, their compounded bodies, fruits, properties, powers, and hidden effects.

The Cabala, with its high and secret knowledge, points the way and the path for humans to reach God the Lord, showing how to deal with Him and what to reveal and proclaim from His word. Magic follows the Anima mundi and the natural spirit of the natural light: if it could bring out an incombustible oil from God's creatures, especially from metals and minerals, then it would help humans. Cabala, on the other hand, follows the light of the Holy Spirit, which is also kindled from above in the hearts of believers, and faith must spring and flow from the Holy Fountain of God's Word and from the living water source of CHRIST, John 4, which will bring us to eternal life, where we will enjoy, drink, and eat the New Divine Nectar, Heavenly Ambrosia, Manna, and Angel Bread with CHRIST in His Kingdom. To become participants in such grace, from the natural Tincture wellspring of health and all temporal kingdom, and then also in the Heavenly Grace Fountain of the living water and divine nectar in the Kingdom of CHRIST Eternally, we must set ourselves to the matter differently: regarding the natural, we must follow the footsteps of Theophrastus, Bacchus, Brother Basil, Isaac Holland, and other philosophers; regarding the eternal, we must follow CHRIST JESUS as the Trismegistus, Spagyrist, Philosopher, Physician of body and soul, and study, seek, knock, and strive to keep His New Great Commandment, which is an easy and light burden: to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbor as ourselves, etc. Likewise, faithful and diligent students will be found in the eight virtues of happiness, who listen to CHRIST alone, following neither human wisdom nor human spirit, for it is said: Cursed is he who trusts in man, and every man is a liar; only God is true, etc. If we pursue this diligently, we will certainly be comforted both temporally and eternally, for piety is useful for all things, having promises not only for this life but also for the life to come.

I hope that all of you will hold my free, candid, and kind-hearted philosophical compilation, my Liberrimam παῥῤησίαν, in high regard and consider my spirit and heart with great esteem and admiration, as I sincerely wish, from the depths of my heart, that not only I, but all those who desire it, may be graciously granted the divine gift of Aureum donum, and then eternal life and happiness by God. Although I have no doubt that this will be granted to me personally, as I have already seen for many years what has been bestowed upon me by the Most High Father of all perfect and complete gifts, sed tamen exhaustos post mille labores, and what will soon come to pass. However, we must also learn to recognize nature itself. Quòd natura naturam separet; Natura naturam complectatur, vincat & superet, as the philosophers say, not by working according to the general practices and processes, of which barely one in a thousand is correct, but by examining the possibility of true homogeneity in all of our chemical compositions, whether it exists or not, for Natura naturæ gaudet & collætatur, and she separates, flees, and avoids all heterogeneity, as everything depends on experience and knowledge. For it is once certain and true that whoever does not recognize God does not love him, and he knows nothing of him. He who does not know the Trinity does not believe in it, and he does not love it.

And these are high mysteries and magnalities of God, of which the world knows nothing, nor recognizes, therefore it also does not believe it, nor experiences anything fundamentally. And the right foundation for this is laid out for us by our highly enlightened Magus and Cabalist THEOPHRASTUS, from the English and Cabalistic science, which all true Christian philosophers should believe. Thus also, whoever does not know nature, does not love it, and whoever does not recognize it, sees nothing in it, despises it, his belly is only his god. But the more knowledge there is in a thing, the more love for it is ignited. Whoever does not understand or recognize the poor, or has not experienced poverty himself, does not believe him, does not love him, and does not do anything good for him, as the pagan queen Dido boasts to Virgil, saying: Non ignara mali miseris succurrere disco. Which Christians should do even more according to the command of our master and lord Jesus Christ, but unfortunately, God have mercy, such love and faithfulness have almost completely cooled and disappeared from all human hearts. Therefore, all things lie in knowledge, from which the fruits flow towards it, knowledge gives faith: whoever recognizes God, believes in him, whoever does not recognize him, does not believe in him: therefore, everyone believes as much as he recognizes. So also in alchemy, whoever does not learn to recognize the nature and hidden secret powers in metals and minerals that are deeply hidden, will not love it, much less bring out the pure from the impure, much less attain the quintessence, which is the entire core and foundation in every being or creature. And let this be enough philosophy for this time until our joyful gathering and oral conversation.

As I am well and wholeheartedly devoted to all the sons of the Spagyric doctrine, and inclined to promote with my help, as much as possible, their noble and honorable intention of obtaining the treasure of the Thewren Tincture and the Universal Medicine, or even just some particulars, I have once again aimed and planted a new Olympian Rosarium. In it, I have set forth exceptional plants and trees left behind by ancient and modern philosophers in their writings, which deal with and discuss the blessed Stone of the Wise and the Golden Branch of the Philosophers, as well as how to break and obtain it from the secret Horto and from the Arbore Hesperidum.

I have divided this little book into two different parts, of which I have ordered the first part to be published openly under your Honorable name, and I dedicate it to all of you, my great, benevolent, and kind lords and friends, with a dedicatory title and right, wishing you a happy new year. With this, I want to publish and declare publicly, as a symbolic expression of gratitude for all kinds of manifold kindness, favors, honor, love, and friendship shown to me, that I hope your Highnesses and Honors, your dignity, sincerity, love, and favor will notice my well-intentioned dedication and consider me, as a poor student and disciple of Natural and Immortal Philosophy, in the best possible way. And may you, as you have done until now, kindly and generously recommend me and mine, in all honor and friendship, in my Eremitic pilgrimage, and in all Christian love and faithfulness.
